Is the image editor really free?
Yes, completely free with no limits. There are no watermarks, no file size restrictions, and no account required. All editing runs in your browser using your device's processing power.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Filesmith processes everything locally in your browser. Your images never leave your device. There are no uploads, no cloud storage, and no data collection.
How does the background remover work?
The background remover uses an AI segmentation model that runs directly in your browser. It automatically detects the main subject and removes the surrounding background. After removal, you can use the erase and restore brushes to refine any edges.
How does it compare to Photoshop?
Filesmith includes many of the same core tools: layers with masks, adjustment layers, curves and levels, clone stamp, healing brush, liquify, perspective transform, lasso tools, and more. It can also import PSD files. The main difference is it runs in your browser with zero setup and is completely free.
Can I open Photoshop (PSD) files?
Yes. Use File > Import PSD to open 8-bit Photoshop files. The composite image is imported and you can edit it with all of Filesmith's tools. Individual PSD layers are not yet supported.
Can I save my project and continue later?
Yes. Use File > Save Project to download a .fsm file containing all your layers, masks, effects, and settings. You can also work across multiple project tabs simultaneously.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The editor has a mobile-optimized layout with touch gestures — pinch to zoom, two-finger pan, and a bottom toolbar with the essential tools. For advanced features, desktop is recommended.
What keyboard shortcuts are available?
Most Photoshop shortcuts work: V for move, B for brush, E for eraser, C for crop, S for clone stamp. Space+drag to pan, [ ] to resize brushes, \ for before/after, Ctrl+Z to undo. See the shortcuts section above for more.
