Privacy Policy

We built Filesmith because we don't trust other sites with our files either. This policy reflects that.

Last updated: July 27, 2026
TL;DR — the short version
Your files never leave your device. Ever.
We don't collect, store, or sell any personal data.
No account required. No sign-up. No tracking of you as an individual.
Ads are served by Google AdSense, which uses cookies. Details below.

01 What Filesmith does with your files

All file processing on Filesmith — converting, compressing, editing — happens entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly and the Canvas API. Your files are never uploaded to any server. They don't leave your device at any point during or after processing.

We have no access to your files, their contents, their names, or their metadata. We couldn't see them even if we wanted to.

02 Information we do not collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

Your files or their contents · File names or sizes · IP addresses · Browser fingerprints · Personal identifiers of any kind · Form data (there are no forms)

Filesmith does not require an account to use, and we have no user database of any kind.

03 Google AdSense & cookies

Filesmith displays ads served by Google AdSense to keep the site free. Google AdSense uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads that are relevant to you, based on your browsing history across sites in Google's network.

This is handled entirely by Google. Filesmith has no access to the data Google collects for ad serving purposes. You can learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/ads, and you can opt out of personalized ads at adssettings.google.com.

04 Analytics

Filesmith may use Google Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated data about how visitors use the site — such as which pages are visited, how long sessions last, and what browser or device type is used. This data contains no personally identifiable information and is used only to understand how the site is being used so we can improve it.

Google Analytics may use cookies to distinguish between sessions. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

05 Storage on your own device

Two features use your browser's built-in storage to move a file between pages on this site. When you start a conversion on one page and continue it on another, the file is held briefly in sessionStorage; the EXIF stripper and face blur tools use IndexedDB the same way when a file is handed to them from elsewhere on the site.

Both of these live entirely on your device. Nothing is transmitted, and nothing is readable by us or by anyone else. sessionStorage is cleared automatically when you close the tab, and the IndexedDB entry is removed once the file has been picked up. Clearing your browser data removes both immediately.

Filesmith sets no cookies of its own. The only cookies involved are those set by Google for advertising and analytics, described above.

06 Third-party libraries

Filesmith loads open-source libraries from public CDNs to power its features — FFmpeg for audio and video conversion, pdf-lib and PDF.js for documents, UTIF for TIFF images, and others. These are served over HTTPS by jsDelivr, cdnjs and unpkg. The site also loads its typefaces from Google Fonts.

No personal data is shared with any of these providers beyond what is inherent in any HTTP request — your IP address, browser type, and the address of the file being requested. None of them receive your files, because your files are never sent anywhere.

07 Children's privacy

Filesmith is a general-purpose file conversion tool. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Since we collect no personal data from anyone, this applies equally to all users.

08 Changes to this policy

If we ever change this privacy policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We don't anticipate major changes — our core promise (your files stay on your device) is not going anywhere.
