Filesmith is free, requires no account, and runs entirely in your browser. These terms explain what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you.
By using Filesmith you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site. We may update these terms from time to time — see section 11.
Filesmith is operated as an independent project. Throughout this document, "we", "us", and "Filesmith" refer to the operator of filesmith.io, and "you" refers to anyone using the site.
Filesmith is a collection of free browser-based tools for converting and editing files — images, audio, video — along with utilities such as a QR code generator, EXIF stripper, face blur tool, and GIF maker.
Every tool runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly and standard web APIs. Your files are processed on your own device and are never uploaded to a server. This is a technical fact about how the site is built, not just a policy commitment.
No account, sign-up, or payment is required to use any tool on the site.
You retain all rights to any file you process with Filesmith. Because your files never leave your device, we never receive, store, access, or transmit them — and we therefore claim no licence or ownership over them of any kind.
You are responsible for making sure you have the right to use, edit, and convert the files you process. Don't use Filesmith on content you don't own or have permission to use.
Keep your own backups. Conversion and editing tools can fail, and browsers can run out of memory on very large files. Always work from a copy and keep the original somewhere safe. We cannot recover a file you lose, because we never had it.
You may use Filesmith for any lawful purpose, personal or commercial, at no cost. You may not:
Because processing happens on your device, we have no technical ability to monitor what you convert — enforcement of this section rests on your honesty and on applicable law.
Filesmith is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any conversion will produce a particular result.
Conversion quality varies by format, file, and browser. Some conversions are lossy by nature. Some very large files may exceed what your device's memory can handle. Browser support for formats changes over time and is outside our control.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Filesmith and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the site — including lost files, lost data, lost profits, corrupted output, or business interruption.
Because Filesmith is provided free of charge and never receives your files, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim relating to the site is limited to zero.
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations of liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
The Filesmith name, design, interface, and original site content are owned by us and protected by copyright. You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from the site itself without permission.
This does not apply to output you create with the tools — files you convert or edit are entirely yours, with no attribution required and no restriction on commercial use.
Filesmith is built on open-source software, including FFmpeg, pdf-lib, PDF.js, and ImageTracer.js. Those components remain the property of their respective authors and are used under their own licences.
Filesmith uses a small number of third-party services to operate: Google Analytics for anonymous, aggregate usage statistics, Google AdSense to display advertising, Google Fonts, and public CDNs that host some of the open-source libraries listed above.
These services may set cookies or receive standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policies, not ours. See our Privacy Policy for detail on what is and isn't collected.
The site may link to external websites. We're not responsible for their content, accuracy, or practices.
We may add, change, suspend, or remove any tool or feature at any time, with or without notice. We may also restrict access to the site or take it offline entirely, whether temporarily or permanently.
Filesmith is an independent project offered free of charge, and we make no commitment to keep any particular tool available indefinitely.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Filesmith and its operator from any claim, demand, loss, or expense arising from your use of the site, your violation of these terms, or your infringement of anyone else's rights.
We may revise these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Filesmith after a change means you accept the revised terms.
If a change is significant, we'll try to make it obvious rather than quietly editing the page.
These terms are governed by the laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in full effect.
